If you have been serious about getting hair extensions for awhile then you probably know how daunting this process can feel and leave you with many unanswered questions. In this post, I hope I can help you make your decision with 5 things you need to know before getting extensions.
5 things you need to know before getting hair extensions
- You need to use a special shampoo and conditioner to protect your hair. Even if they contain 100% real hair, you should still use a special shampoo because the hair is treated.
- Splurge on quality. Good extensions shouldn’t ruin your hair.
- Get the right hair color or have it all dyed together to match. That way you can’t tell the difference with the extensions.
- If your extensions are too heavy, they can make your hair shed and make your hair break. Know which extensions work for you! Research…
- Taking care of your extensions does take time. Do they tangle? Yes but take care of them.
How long do extensions last
I feel like this is the first question everyone asks, “how long do extensions last?” I would say it is completely up to the person, but I do know the tape in extensions can last almost 8-10 months! Other extensions can last 3 weeks or so but people use for months after, which is not good for your hair. Know when to give them up, and get new! The clip in extensions that get clipped into the root of your hair lasts until they are so grown out and you need them adjusted. I would say they last a long time if you take proper care of them and your hair has normal growth. Traditional clip in extensions should be taken out every night. Research which ones your lifestyle can commit to and the benefits of each. When you spend the time you will know which one is right for you.
How to care for your hair extensions
Even when I don’t use my clip in extensions which I rarely use because my hair is so long now. I use if I want more volume. I still use Purelogy’s Hydrate Shampoo, Kérastase’s Nutritive Masque Magistral, and this hydration mask makes your hair super silky! My hair has never been better since using these products. I highly recommend these! From first hand experience, I would say to be cautious and do your research. Someone I knew got extensions and when they got them taken out it pulled out a bunch of her hair. So just consult with your hair stylist first as they know best!
