Are you debating on whether you should get your makeup done for prom? Wondering if it will be worth it or something you should pass on? Here are some tips from a makeup artist!
Should you get your makeup done for prom?
I get this question very often…
Should I get my makeup done for prom? Or am I wasting my money?
Getting your makeup done for Prom
Personally… I think anywhere you’re getting pictures taken that you want to have for a long time, then it will ALWAYS be worth it! You will look back at these photos years from now. Whether you’re showing your kids, husband or even your grandkids these photos will always be memories you will look back on.
The day is about YOU! It s a time to pamper yourself, feel good, and a time to celebrate with close friends. I have so many memories from my prom and I remember literally getting ready the entire day and was so excited! I went to prom three years and I would say every year it was just as exciting. Its so fun getting asked first of all, especially with all the prom-posals now they make it such a big deal. I remember the talk at school was always who was asking who and how they were getting asked lol. We knew how they were getting asked before they even knew! Of course the girls were always so nervous to see who was asking them it was this big thing!
How to book makeup for prom
Booking a makeup artist is super easy. There are so many different ways you can reach out: websites, social media, calling/ texting, email, or calling a salon they work at! The problem with going to stores is that they apply your makeup for “FREE” I did that once. Although they can do a great job, almost all of them require a $50 or a minimum purchase you have to spend on their products. If you’re like me and leave not liking your makeup, you just spent all that money on their products! So you have to be careful. I am a brunette and left once with blonde eyebrows! How does that even happen??
Tips for booking a makeup artist
1. Check their reviews
2. Ask to see their portfolio & how long they’ve been in business
3. Ask if they will drive to you
4. See if they give group discounts
5. Don’t ask what products they use, we all use different products we think would look the best on you. Not every makeup artist is going to use the exact same products. You don’t know you might like their products way better than you thought you would.
Booking a makeup artist
As I mentioned above, ask if they give group discounts! I always give group discounts if 6 or more book, but you don’t know if you don’t ask. That way you can get ready with your friends and so its more affordable. You can have a girls day with a few of your best friends within your budget. There are so many ways you can book but I recommend looking at professional websites like The Knot, Wedding Wire, or their own websites. Most wedding makeup artists are freelance so I know they would be happy to help with prom if they didn’t already book a wedding that day.
If youre looking for a very neutral and versatile eyeshadow palette this would be the perfect prom eyeshadow palette!
